Welcome back to another WWE NXT review! It’s time for week two of Spring Breakin’ and, after last weeks brilliant episode with Trick getting his title win in an excellent main event, week two has a lot to live up to. We have two title matches tonight with Oba Femi defending his North American Championship against Ivar while Nathan Frazer and Axion defend their NXT Tag Team championships against the Authors of Pain. We also have Natalya and Lola Vice meeting in the FIRST EVER Women’s NXT Underground match.

We start with a recap of last week’s Spring Breakin’; we go through all the matches before watching Trick slaying the mad dragon. We begin the show with our new NXT Champion Trick Williams making his first entrance as champion. Trick tells the world, that we dreamt of this moment and it’s here, Trick Williams is your new champion. The crowd reacts with ‘you deserve it’ chants. Trick starts with thanking Ilja Dragunov for everything he did for Trick’s career as well as NXT. He tells Dragunov to do his thing on RAW.

Trick welcomes us to the Whoop That Era of NXT. He promises to break more records and make history, before being interrupted by Lash Legend of Meta-Four who is holding an envelope. Lash offers the most sarcastic of congratulations and continues to praise Trick before he reminds her of the last time they were together in the ring she tried to slap him. The two go back and forth about whether Lash wants to be with Trick or not (there’s some hilarious dialogue involving reese’s cup’s here).

After teasing what might be in the envelope Lash is carrying she tells Trick to enjoy his new title run because soon it will come crashing down and things will become very hot. This ends an interesting promo which sets up Noam Dar (I’m assuming?) for a title shot. Lash and Trick worked well here but it was slightly confusing what was happening but I guess that was the point of the promo.

Next up is Arianna Grace and Gigi Dolin once again. Whilst Arianna tries to teach Gigi some dinner etiquette, Gigi hilariously runs down the brutal matches on the show tonight and Arianna is just appalled by Gigi’s violent attitude. This is just hilarious! It ends with Gigi swigging her drink and belching loudly. I love these promo’s so much. It’s just silly but sold the card tonight well.

Oba Femi (c) v Ivar North American Championship

Stitch’s Pre Match Thought’s: Oba Femi enters first before we see Natalya and Lola Vice (accompanied by Karmen Petrovic and Shayna Baszler respectively) arriving earlier tonight. This will be the first time I properly get to see Oba, I’m excited as WWE seems really big on this guy and you can see why. I think it’s obvious Oba retains here but we know Ivar can go, so I’m excited to these two big guys go at it.

Stitch’s Summary: The match starts with the two big men pushing each other before Ivar takes down Oba with a stiff shoulder, then he hits a flying cannonball on Oba on the outside. Ivar goes up top again but Oba dodges, Ivar manages to hit a powerslam but Oba kicks out at one!

Oba manages to take some control with a big backbreaker in the corner, he throws Ivar to the outside but gets thrown into the steps by Ivar for his trouble. Ivar follows this up with a splash through the barricade as we go into the break.

After the break we see Ivar and Oba on the top rope, Ivar knocks Oba to the outside before hitting an impressive aerial cannonball. Back in the ring Oba takes some control in the ring hitting a huge forearm but only gets a two. Oba follows this up with some back elbows in the corner but gets caught by Ivar with a kick to the face that can only get Ivar a two count.

Ivar tries to go the top but is caught on the top rope by Oba who hits him with a samoan drop for the near fall. Ivar once again goes to the top nailing a moonsault but Oba gets a foot on the rope. Wow this is good, these guys are giving everything right now! Ivar tries for another moonsault but is hit with the electric chair as Oba fires up. He hits a powerbomb for the three and retains the title.

Oba Femi Wins By Pinfall and Retains The North American Championship

Following the match, Oba’s title celebrations are interrupted by the returning Wes Lee (!!!!) the former champion faces off with the current champ as Oba raises his title in the air.

Stitch’s Rating: 7/10. A fast paced, big man matchup with Ivar going above and beyond to make Oba Femi look like a star and oh did it work! I really think Ivar is so underrated in the ring especially his athleticism and he did so well here. Oba Femi continues to look like gold and the Wes Lee return was the cherry on top.

We go to Thea Hail who is pumped up for her match with Jacy Jayne asking Fallon to come out with her tonight but Fallon is feeling beat up after last week( the crowd is welcoming Wes Lee back in the background). Thea makes her entrance as Fallon agrees to join Chase U at ringside.

Jacy Jayne v Thea Hail

Stitch’s Pre Match Thoughts: This should be a good match, I’m expecting some shenanigans here but both Jacy and Thea are destined for great things. This has been a good story with Jacy’s turn on Chase U, I’m excited to see where it goes.

Stitch’s Summary: The match begins with Thea teeing off with some stiff strikes, she hits a suicide dive on the outside and lays into Jayne. Jayne takes control on the outside after knocking Thea off the top rope as we go into the break.

We return from break with Jacy in control, she hits a brutal neckbreaker after Thea springboards off the ropes but Jacy only gets a two. Thea hits a brutal looking headbutt that takes both women out. Both women exchange big punches before Thea builds up some momentum, she hits a great looking falcon arrow which Jacy kicks out off at two.

Jacy hits a superkick to Thea to the outside, Thea is saved by Fallon Henley on the outside after Jazmyn tries to attack. Thea gets back in the ring locking in the Kimura lock to get the submission win.

Thea Hail Wins By Submission

As Thea celebrates Henley turns on Hail with a brutal elbow before exiting to Chase U horror and shock.

Stitch’s Rating: 6/10. A quick but entertaining match that allowed both wrestlers to showcase their talent. This was more about the story and getting Thea ready for her next story with Fallon. Still a good enjoyable match that worked well with the time given.

Ahead of their match Tyrieke Igwe & Tyson Dupont introduce themselves to the NXT viewers, that match is coming up next but not before we see Natalya and Karmen warming up backstage.

Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson v Tyson Dupont & Tyriek Igwe

Stitch’s Pre Match Thoughts: Always good to see a new team debut, be interesting to see what we get from Dupont and Igwe, the OC are a solid experienced tag team and are great for Dupont and Igwe’s first tv match.

Stitch’s Summary: Anderson and Igwe begin as Igwe works on Anderson in the corner, Igwe and Tyson make a few quick tags as they work on Anderson, taking control early on. Igwe and Dupont hit double team punches before a splash that only gets a two.

Anderson finally pushes back Igwe and Gallows tags in. Igwe tee’s off on Anderson but Gallows takes control with the chin lock. Igwe uses his power to get Gallows on his shoulders, Gallows escapes and both teams make tags. The match goes back and forth before Gallows & Anderson hits a magic killer for the three.

The O.C. Wins By Pinfall

Stitch’s Rating: 5.5/10. An solid first match for Igwe & Dupont, they looked really good here, their offence was clean and I really enjoyed their showing. I’m excited to see them grow and learn because I think they can be amazing on this brand.

Next we have a recap of the draft before we hear from the NXT coaches. This is followed by Ava who reveals the first ever North American Women’s champion will be crowned at NXT Battleground in a ladder match. Ava announces a series of qualifying matches (a combine) to see who will be in this ladder match. Jaida Parker interrupts Ava telling her that she will demolish every women in the locker room and win the new title. Sol Ruca interrupts, praises Jaida’s confidence but tells Jaida she will be at the top of the qualifying combine and the ladder in vegas.

Arianna Grace is next who urges everyone to keep their decorum, she is terrified by the prospect of a ladder match but is interrupted by… MICHIN!!!! Michin says she has some unfinished business in her old stomping grounds, she announces herself for the combine before taking out Grace. The women’s roster empties as everyone brawls.

Backstage the street profits greet Axiom and Frazer, urging the team to show the world who they are and remember never to slow down. Montez ends with an ‘I love the product’ which is just hilarious. Next up is Vice and Baszler training, (Baszler doesn’t look especially convinced by Vice if I’m honest).

Shawn Spears v Ridge Holland

Pre Match Thoughts: I can’t say this has been the most exciting build up, I like Spears but Hollan is yet to wow me, lets see what they can bring in this match.

Stitch’s Summary: The match starts slow with lots of breaks in action, Shawn hits some stiff punches and continues to lock in some rest holds. Ridge tries to power back by hitting a power slam off the top rope. He follows up with some stiff shoulders in the corner before hitting a side slam.

Ridge continues his offence hitting a nasty knee before hitting a DDT to get the win.

Stitch’s Rating: 4/10. Not a lot happened really, it was slow and was really hard to stick with. Such a shame really but just not great.

In the back Roxanne is on a brilliant rant to Ava about not being drafted, she claims Ava has an agenda against her with Ava stating that champions are protected so Ava couldn’t have done anything. Roxanne storms off as Ava tells a mystery person they’ll have to talk to Roxanne later.

We then go backstage with Ivar, Briggs and Wes Lee. Wes Lee and Briggs debate who should get a title match against Oba with the two agreeing to fight each other for the opportunity. This ends with Ivar telling Lee he’s not done with Oba.

Next Paul Ellering and the Final Testament tell the world they are coming for all the titles and what they did Friday was just the beginning. He warns NXT to get ready.

Next we have the D’Angelo family in a car, discussing their win last week. D’Angelo wants the Heritage Cup as the family plan how to break the No Quarter Catch Crew.

The Authors Of Pain (Akam and Rezar) v Nathan Frazer and Axiom (c) NXT Tag Team Champions

Pre Match Thoughts: Not sure what to expect here with AOP being drafted earlier this week, I’d like to see a big underdog win here if AOP will be leaving NXT again. I feel like Frazer and Axiom could definitely bring more with an extended title run.

The match doesn’t even begin before Axiom and Frazer take it to the AOP, they hit multiple suicide dives to the outside before AOP finally get back in the ring and the match begins. AOP take control, as the match officially begins, with a brutal beatdown of Frazer who is isolated and torn apart. AOP tag in and out at their leisure. Frazer gets brutally suplexed before we go to the break.

When we come back Axiom is in the ring but AOP are still firmly in control Akam tags in as Fraser gets the hot tag hitting Akam with some big kicks and a flying axhandle. Frazer goes close with a side slam before trying to hit a dive on the outside. He is caught by Rezar who throws him into Axiom. A knee to the face on Frazer nearly gets a three but Axiom and Frazer fight back with drop kicks before Scarlett stops Akam getting taken out. As Scarlett and Kross are kicked out Tyler Bate and Pete Dunne hit AOP with double drop kicks that allows Frazer to sneak a win.

Winners by pinfall Nathan Frazer and Axiom

Stitch’s Rating: 6/10. A solid match with a simple but good story, a big win for the champs as AOP look towards their big feud with Dunne and Bate. The right decision here and the action was entertaining, AOP still look like monsters here which is the main thing.

We get a few promos as the NXT underground ring is set up, Meta Four promise to reveal to Trick the contents of the envelope on Supernova Sessions next week. We also get Henley telling us that it’s time for her look after herself.

Lola Vice v Natalya NXT Underground Match

Pre Match Thoughts: Not really sure what to expect here, this is my first time watching a match like this on NXT so I’m intrigued as to what we’ll see. Vice can go and Natalya has the experience to make this kind of thing shine so lets see.

Stitch’s Summary: So no pinfalls or count outs here, submission or knockout will win. No ropes and the roster have surrounded the ring as the two lock up. Early on Natalya gets the upper hand, she keeps on top with some stiff strikes before locking in an ankle lock. Lola manages to break out and she takes control, her offence is mostly big kicks before sending Natalya to the outside with a hip check as we go to the break.

We come back as Natalya and Vice brawl on the outside, Natalya hits a suplex not once but twice before climbing the announcers table. Vice sweeps the leg making Natalya fall onto the table before both women return to the ring. Natalya tries to regain control but Vice sends her into the ringpost.

Vice unleashes some tough kicks as Natalya is grounded, Vice manages to get an arm lock on Natalya but Natalya fights out with heavy fists. This works until Vice gets a guillotine on Natalya. Natalya drops Vice but Vice keeps the hold on before Natalya brings them out the ring breaking the hold with a slam on the outside.

Back in the ring, Natalya wraps Vice’s knee around the ring post, Karmen attacks Shayna as she goes for Natalya on the outside. Baszler does eventually get involved as Natalya locks in the sharpshooter but Natalya throws her from the ring. Natalya does get the sharpshooter but breaks after Shayna Baszler puts Petrovic in the clutch. Vice takes advantage with a big fist and forearms that give her the win by knock out.

Winner By Knock Out Lola Vice

Stitch’s Rating.7.5/10. A really really good main event, I really enjoyed this and didn’t expect myself to. Vice continues to look brilliant and I think the story for Natalya losing due to her kindness is an interesting one. The style of the match worked really well here and it never became boring or too slow. A great main event.

Roxanne is back with Ava who has the next challenger for her. IT’S CHELSEA GREEN!!!! This is amazing and I already can’t wait for next week.

Stitch’s Final rating: 6.75/10. A good show brought down by a bad match in the middle between Spears and Ridge. Other than this everything else was great, Ivar and Oba was a big man brawl that was brilliant, the match of the night goes to the Natalya and Lola Vice in a really good Underground main event. Not as good as least week in my opinion but a good show and really worth the watch.
