We’re back with more ChocoPro live bring you my review for the 368 episode aired on Youtube on 2024/4/28. This week we have Sayaka Obihiro and Sayaka continuing their team after last weeks win against Chon Shiryu and Eri Kanae. They will be facing the team of Masahiro Takanashi & Antonio Honda the former with two main event losses against BestBro’s in the last two weeks. Our second match of the night will be Chie Koishikawa, who is returning from illness that kept her out of the last show, taking on Kushinbo Kamen before our main event that will see Mei Suruga, Baliyan Akki & Tokiko Kirihara taking on Miya Yotsuba & Nonoka Seto & Erii Kanae.

Between this and my previous review of ChocoPro I’ve really dived into some of the history of the show and it’s wrestlers. Credit goes to Dogglesnake on the squared circle reddit where he posts guides for each episode of ChocoProLIVE, you can find a link to this episodes guide here.

Mei & Akki welcome us to the show, with Akki forward rolling into shot and Mei emerging through the window in true BestBro’s style. As always they run down the card introducing us to our competitors.

Sayaka Obihiro & Sayaka v Masahiro Takanashi & Antonio Honda

Pre Match Thoughts: It will be W Sayaka taking on Schadenfeude (a group Takanashi & Honda are together in DDT), I’m excited for this one going into it, Takanashi has been great in the two tag team matches I have seen him in, bringing some great psychology and energy to his matches. Honda is great as a comedy wrestler, he brings a wonderful silliness to his matches but backs it up with some great older style wrestling. I’m really getting behind the two Sayaka’s, Obihiro is brilliant both in charisma and ring work she is a real star in my early viewing of ChocoPro whilst Sayaka brings a brutal move set and great in-ring work.

Stitch’s Summary: After the introductions W Sayaka make their entrance as Obihiro sings herself and Sayaka onto the mat. Oh I loved this! Takanashi tries to do the same for him and Honda but it doesn’t have quite the same effect, possibly more hilarious though. Baliyan Akki will be the referee for this match.

Takanashi & Honda begin by faking the handshake and we begin with Takanashi and Sayaka, they lock up swapping rest holds before a test of strength that Sayaka wins. We get more rest holds and a arm drag by Takanashi that is reversed with a headscissors from Sayaka. Obihiro and Honda tag in as Honda works on the arm whilst leading a wonderful chant with the crowd before Obihiro is able to reverse into an arm hold of her own.

Obihiro manages to take Honda down with a stiff chop (selling the injured arm) before Honda calls a time out, he goes for the time out chop as the crowd joins in with the Kenny Omega clap but it is countered. We get more trademark Honda comedy shenanigans before Obihiro sends him into the wall.

W Sayaka work on Honda at the wall with chops and a lariat, Honda manages to use his dastardly skills to distract and take down Sayaka before Takanashi is in to work on Sayaka (including his trademark nose grab). Sayaka fights back with a dropkick and Obihiro is back in. She unloads on Takanashi in true Obihiro style looking strong but is stopped in her tracks by Takanashi and Honda.

It’s time for an Eye of the Tiger sing along from the crowd as Honda is back in, firing up, laying punches onto Obihiro until his dancing is ended by a punch to the gut by Obihiro. Sayaka is back in the ring and exchanges punches with Honda, this ends with a great bodyslam onto Honda and a double dropkick from W Sayaka onto Honda.

Sayaka throws Takanashi into a chop from Obihiro, they try the same for Honda but he reverse and Sayaka gets hit instead, Honda rolls up Sayaka and manages to take the win.

Winner: Antonio Honda & Masahiro Takanashi

Stitch’s Rating: 3.25/5 Choco’s. A really enjoyable match that had the perfect blend of fun comedy and some really good wrestling, Obihiro is just full of charisma and really brings the energy up in matches especially against someone like Honda. This was great, all four competitors had their time to shine and I really enjoyed.

Chie Koishikawa v Kushinbo Kamen

Pre Match Thoughts: I’m so glad to see Chie back this week after illness, I look forward to seeing what she brings here against someone I haven’t seen before, Kushinbo Kamen. Chie enters first singing herself onto the mat, skipping with her sword and receiving what I believe to be necklaces of some kind of treat (someone let me know if I’m wrong or you know exactly what they are). This sums up Chie and oh my god am I here for it! She introduces herself whilst still wearing these treats, oh this is brilliant.

You’ll have to forgive me for I have no clue what happens next here (partly due to my zero knowledge of Japanese combined with wonderful insanity). Our next competitor Kushinbo Kamen (a spotty clown for those unaware,) also sings himself onto the mat, he brings with him what look like biscuits that he hands out to the audience (and Chie) from a spotty Santa-esque sack, oh ChocoPro how I love you so so much. Our referee is Antonio Honda.

Stitch’s Summary: A handshake to start and we are away, Kamen gives us a forward roll and a pose followed by Chie. This is so wonderful, our referee Honda also gives us a forward roll, Chie and Kamen think this is now over and try and leave but they return to start the match.

We get a lock up to start with as Kamen takes control with the arm, Chie fights back and we get a stalemate after a reversal before we get our first Chop Off of the episode!!!! That cheeky Kamen lands some cheeky shots out of nowhere but is brought back into check by Chie. This then leads to our two competitors posing once again in the ring after an little jump, not sure why but I’m here for it.

Chie is firmly on top here and locks in a nasty looking leg stretcher but Kamen gets to the audience to break the hold. Chie misses a move from the window before we get into a festival of rollups!!! Oh it’s glorious!

Kamen eventually gets the three with a final roll up on Chie after reversing her roll up attempt.

Winner: Kushinbo Kamen by Pinfall

Stitch’s Rating: 2.75/5 Choco’s. A really fun and silly match that was just entertaining as anything I’ve seen, both competitors brought so much to the bout and it really worked. Such a well delivered comedy match. After the match we get a handshake and a wonderful pose.

BestBro’s (Baliyan Akki & Mei Suruga) & Tokiko Kirihara v Miya Yotsuba & Nonoka Seto & Erii Kanae

Pre Match Thoughts: It’s time for the main event as the Setouchi Sisters return to ChocoPro after about a month since their last appearance. BestBro’s will look to continue their insane momentum as they team with Tokiko Kirihara who I really enjoyed last week and can’t wait to see more of her especially the brutal offence. Antonio Honda is our referee for the main event.

Stitch’s Summary: All six competitors shake hands before the match (with Suruga and Seto giving slightly more aggressive handshakes). Seto and Kirihara start us off here as both competitors lock up, the tide turns between both competitors as Akki & Yotsuba lock up. Akki forced Yotsuba into the crowd before the break and they go straight back into another lock up. Both competitors send each other into the wall with Yatsuba getting the upper hand and shoulder blocking Akki into the crowd, Akki responds with a running knee strike that floors Yotsuba.

Kanae tags in and so does Mei, Mei gains the upper hand by pulling Kanae’s hair in the most Mei Suruga style tag entrance. Bestbro’s work over Kanae to boo’s from the crowd, Akki stands on the hair and that gets even more boo’s from the crowd. Mei is back in and throws Kanae into the wall before hitting three jumping stomps against the wall. Mei is firmly in control here as she hits a double kick to the back for a near fall.

Akki returns with a stomp to the back of his own getting three two counts, one of which Mei assists by holding the foot. Kirihara tags in and chokes Kanae with her own hair, she then continues to work on Kanae locking in a stf before Seto tries to break it up with a headlock. Mei responds by coming behind Seto and grabbing her ears, Yotsuba then arrives behind Mei and puts her in a headlock before Akki completes the submission train putting Yotsuba is a sleeper, everybody eventually breaks their holds as the train leaves.

Kanae manages to pick up some momentum spearing Kirihara into the wall and tagging in Yotsuba, who immediately takes control hitting a big backbreaker. Kirihara gets the upper hand, running Yotsuba into the wall and hitting a leg sweep for two. Yotstuba works her way out of a submission but her fight back is stopped by Kirihara who tags in Akki, the two tee off against each other as we get a second Chop Off!!!!! Chops and stiff arms fly as Akki and Yotsuba go at it, Akki eventually brings Yotsuba to the ground but she fights back with a huge uppercut.

Akki gets a near fall with a brutal backbreaker but can’t hit a suplex in the follow up. Akki is thrown into the ring by Yotsuba and Kanae and worked on by Seto who hits a running DDT. Seto goes for a cutter off the window but is caught by Akki and used to take out both Yotsuba and Kanae. Suruga is then thrown into her teammates before Seto does a lap of the building to hit a dropkick on Akki.

Both participants are down but still manage to make the tag to their partners. Seto tries desperately to pin Mei with a number of Olympic takedowns but can only get two counts. Suruga locks in a Boston Crab before locking in a brutal walls that Seto crawls to the mat to break.

Suruga goes for her own running DDT but she is sent flying into the wall, Seto gets a very, very close two with a neck breaker but Mei just won’t give up. Seto comes close again with another takedown but Mei still kicks out. Akki breaks up a pin on Mei after she is attacked by all three of her competitors and BestBro’s and Kirihara try to regroup.

Seto tries to fight off both Kirihara and Akki but can’t as Mei hits a moonsault off Akki’s shoulders to pick up the big win.

Winner: BestBro’s (Baliyan Akki & Mei Suruga) & Tokiko Kirihara

Stitch’s Rating: 4.25/5 Choco’s: This was once again a brilliant main event where all six competitors delivered, there were a number of stories woven into this match and it worked so well. The psychology was great, there were some awesome spots and it was the first Mei Suruga match that I really had to question during the match if she would win or not. So much happened in this match that it was hard to keep up at times especially in the home stretch. It was just a brilliant match.

Final Rating: 4/5 Choco’s A really good show that gave us three very different but very entertaining matches. All matches were well thought out and so fun! My star of the night was between Mei Suruga and Miya Yotsuba, they both shone in that main event and were a joy to watch. My third watch of ChcocPro and they continue to provide an entertaining wrestling product with some great silliness but also great wrestling. As I learn more about each wrestler it’s just becoming a joy to fall into this world. Join me next time as we review another ChocoPro.
