It’s time for some Joshi Wrestling as we venture into Emi Sakura’s Gatoh Move Wrestling with ChocoPro Live! Gatoh Move, a company created by AEW wrestler and former Ice Ribbon star Emi Sakura, originally called Bangkok Girls Wrestling (running in Thailand) the company has been running shows since 2012. In 2020 Gatoh Move launched ChocoPro, a free internet show on Youtube displaying the best and brightest of Gatoh Move offering a way in for new fans of the company. There has been some real stars come through Gatoh Move since it’s inception, most notably for fans of AEW are Riho and Hikaru Shida. Today’s ace for Gatoh Move is undoubtedly 24 years old Mei Suruga who I can’t wait to see. Join me as I take my first steps into the world of Gatoh Move Choco Pro.
Our first match of the night will be an tag match with the wonderfully named Popcorn Carnival (Chie Koishkawa & Sayaka Obihiro) who are reuniting tonight to face off against SAKI (you may recognise her from appearances in Stardom & GCW) & Antonio Honda.
Popcorn Carnival (Chie Koishkawa & Sayaka Obihiro) v SAKI & Antonio Honda
Of course with Gatoh Move Choco Pro we have a lovely mat instead of a full ring, no ropes or turnbuckles here but there are some windows (just in case you were worried)! Saki takes control early on whilst Honda poses wonderfully infront of the camera. Anton (heel) and Chie (face) are in together as Chie locks an arm bar and this results in a chop which sends Honda on a hilariously slow descent to the mat before asking for a time out and… well singing(?), this distracts Chie enough for him to get a shot in. I came into this ready for the type of silly Choco Pro offers and oh my this is everything I could ever dream off.
Saki is back in and fully takes control of Chie locking in a nasty backbreaker; she tags Honda back in who provides more comedy bad guy schtick which is wonderful. The crowd starts singing as Obihiro joins the match and trading fists with Honda, I wish I could tell you why but I have no idea. Obihiro falls for pretty much the same trick Honda played on Chie and we’re back in with Saki. The match really kicks into life here as everyone swaps tags, this exchange with Saki and Chie in the ring exchanging blows before Obihiro has to break a submission hold for Chie.
The match fully breaks down here in the best possible way as we have Chie jumping from the window, Saki just being incredible, more singing and Chie quickly becoming one of my favorites with some cool kicks. The match ends with Saki rolling up Chie for the three and Honda chanting.
Wow! My first ChocoPro match down and well, how do you rate that, it was so incredibly entertaining but also what on earth happened here, Chie and Saki really stood out to me here and had the best spots and moments in the match. I have decided ChocoPro will be rated on a different scale to my other reviews, it will be rated out of 5 Chocos, this match gets a 3/5 Chocos.
Rina Yamashita v Sayaka
The match starts with Yamashita literally locking Sayaka out of the building, Yamashita then keeps Sayaka at bay with headlocks before Sayaka grabs the hair. Yamashita responds by grabbing the referees hair and we have a hair grabbing train which was wonderful.
Yamashita downs Sayaka with some tough kicks before Sayaka hits back with a back elbow, Yamashita responds with a back elbow of her own that drops Sayaka. They trade elbows before Yamashita goes low and bodyslams her opponent for two. Sayaka is whipped into the wall and viciously chopped before ducking Yamashita dropping her with a dropkick and body slam.
Yamashita reverses a Walls before being sent through the window by Sayaka (oh I love ChocoPro) literally on the outside Yamashita is sent into a rock and punched back through the window (oh I love the slapstick kicking a rock, reminds me of myself). Sayaka hits a sunset flip sending Yamashita flying into the wall before the two go head to head trading elbows. This is followed by Sayaka & Yamashita taking time hitting each others head on the wall (Sayaka even hitting her own head on the wall for good measure). Yamashita managed to get a wall (?) break from an arm breaker as our competitors exchange elbows once more before we get a near fall for both women, Yamashita hits a sit down crucifix for three.
This was a good brawl if not a bit stop startish. Both women gave their all and there were some good spots, I loved how well they used the windows and walls which made the match feel more brutal. Rina shined here as always, if you haven’t seen any Rina Yamashita matches before definitely go check them out. 3.5 Chocos.
BestBros (Mei Seruga & Baliyan Aki) v Masahiro Takanashi & Chon Shiryu
It’s time for our main event as Asia Dream Tag Team Champions BestBros are ready to take on Takanashi & Shiryu. I love Mei Suruga! For someone of her age she wrestles with so much maturity and her ability to steal whatever show she is on is undeniable. Takanashi and Aki begin as they lock up early with both men being very evenly matched with rest holds.
Takanashi fakes the handshake before Ali gets a near fall following a leapfrog from the window and a roll up. Shiryu tags in as well as Suruga and they exchange arm holds before Seruga is able to reverse using the splits! Suruga then pulls Shiryu’s ear to break a headlock before Shiryu low blows Suruga on the window ledge. Seruga takes control with a quick succession of kicks and a double team takedown from BestBros as Aki free throws Seruga onto Shiryu.
Bestbros momentum is broken up by a double… nose grab from Takanashi; Shiryu and Aki are back in the ring as Shiryu chokes Aki with his own hair. Aki is worked on as Suruga is kicked basically out of the building, Aki is 619’d at the window as Takanashi and Shiryu are firmly in control here.
Suruga is in for the hot tag and clears house. Seruga gets a near fall on Takanashi as she and Aki both hit splashes of the wall but they can only get two. Suruga is once again kicked out of the building but Shiryu can only get a two on Aki with an hurricanrana. Suruga is then on hand to make the save following a flying back forearm from Shiryu. The match ends as Suruga and Aki hit the double stomp and the splash for three.
A solid main event that was a nice showcase for all four wrestlers, they kept it fairly simple but a really good wrestling match. The silliness was there as it should be but did not overshadow the fighting. Mei was great as always and is a real star here I like it 3.75 Choco’s.
The show ends as always with the Janken tournament, this is a legendary (wait for it) Rock paper scissors tournament, yes, I’m being serious. It’s mental, wonderful and glorious. We get a wonderful pop as Mei wins the Janken tournament defeating Honda in the final. Oh the fun I had watching this.
Final Thoughts: I enjoyed this so much, ChocoPro is known for its less serious take and its not one for everyone but this show was just so much fun. There was some really good wrestling here too and engaging characters that really get you invested. It wasn’t a world changing show but it was enjoyable and gives you no choice but to watch again. Final Rating: 3.5 Choco’s.
